Joey’s Story-Are you Sure?

This is my brief excerpt of my story I am sure many of you will be able to relate to what I have to say. However I want to share with you a brief picture of my life. Born and raised in a Christian home, our parents were not devout, but they were devoted to Jesus Christ. I say that because devout brings out the idea of legalism vs. devoted is more of having a strong affection, loyalty and dedication to Christ.Because of my surrounding environment it was natural for me to ‘give my life to Christ’ at a young age. As I grew, I knew all the right answers.. Jesus Christ died for my sins, I believed that, and that He rose from the dead. Again I believed that. And then after 40 days He ascended up to heaven. I got it, it believed it. Period… I thought that was it.. Then as I grew older I realized knowledge and
information is NOT salvation… John 17:3 states, ‘And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.’ I came to understand I knew about God, about His Son and some things about His Holy Spirit, but I did not KNOW Him. John 10:27-29 also says, 27 ‘My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. 28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. 29My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. 30 I and My Father are one.” That is when I had to ask myself, do I hear His voice?
Do I follow Him? I found myself as devout but not devoted. You see, it is so easy to come to a place where you believe and are somewhat confident that you are a ‘Child of God’ but the real question is, do you know Him and are you hearing His voice and if so, are you following Him?
I wanted to share this with you so that in the coming
year, if you are like me, born and raised in a ‘religious’‘Christian’ home, please, please do not take your knowledge of the Lord as your salvation.. I think this is one of the enemies greatest deception for us raised in homes like this.
Today, if you will just stop long enough to have a
honest conversation with the Lord and ask him if you have been deceived into believing you are truly saved. A couple more verses that may help are 1 John 5:11-13 (How do you know you have the Son of God? Just open your heart to Him.

  1. This is good advice. Yes I think we sometimes in our walk are a little numb and not always feeling the true power that we have in having a close relationship with Christ.
