John 8:32 “And you will know the truth and the truth will make you free.”
We are born wiggling out of the womb to be free! As a toddler ,I cry,”put me down!” As a child and adult ,“I want to do it my way!”I want to be free from any trap, any addiction, anything that ties my hands! I want to be free from any job I dislike, any relationship that makes me feel bound and I want to be financially free! I want to be free from a troubled and burdened heart! I want to be free from poor health and this body that requires a lot of care. Hey! I don’t know about you, but sometimes I want a vacation from myself!
Many scholars and people have declared that the way to be free is to give it up. But I say, also to give it up to the One Who is Sovereign over every detail in life! Surrender! relinquish! I lie down and look up and give it all up : head to toe, in and out! CS Lewis said, “You don’t have a soul. You are a soul with a body.” I am designed by Him for His purpose to glorify Him as Master Creator! St Augustine said” You have made us for yourself ,O Lord! And our hearts are restless until they rest in you!”All the contentment and happiness we seek dissipates.We strive to control circumstances, and people to avoid or lessen pain and discomfort ! These efforts wastes a lot of energy and yield disappointment.
Lord, I have tried! I surrender! I surrender my effort to control, to please people, to please myself, to control my circumstances! I surrender my dreams, my disappointments, my joys, my sorrows.Just as an employee accepts a job, he surrenders to the employer’s design for the job, its purposes and goals. The employer has carefully designed the accomplished task to meet his goal satisfactorily. As I surrender, Gods takes responsibility for accomplishing his goal! My perfect, righteous , just and Sovereign God guides each step ,sustains in every circumstance, and provides in every way as He does the transformation in my life from restlessness to PEACE and JOY … Free in Him to live life abundantly. (John 10:10) “And you shall know the TRUTH (JESUS)and the TRUTH will make you free!” (John 8:32). Free! In peace, rest, service, worship, singing, laughing, mourning, and abiding in You. You are my eternal everlasting and unchanging loving Father! I am free for You to make me like Jesus! Lord, never never let me forget what my freedom cost You!

Years ago I finally understood God wanted to be Lord of my life. I would think of that again and again. But now after hearing what you said about surrender and then reading this I love the word “surrender.” I will pray to God to help me completely surrender to him!
